Marmaris is one of the first cities that come to mind when thinking about a holiday in Turkey. It is the perfect holiday destination if you’re looking for sun, sea, beach and entertainment. But Marmaris has a lot more to offer! In and around Marmaris there are many things to do and see and you can participate in several excursions like day trips to Dalyan and Jeep Safari. We have listed several things you can do in Marmaris.
This castle, with its courtyard full of statues, dates from 1522. It was built by Süleyman the Magnificent after his successful campaign against Rhodes. Nowadays the castle is a museum from where you have a beautiful view of the harbour.
The bazaar of Marmaris is wonderful to visit. The bazaar is filled with unique smells and everywhere you turn there is an endless sea of colour. The shops offer everything. Large parts are covered and others are covered with a sun towel to protect against the heat of the sun. The bazaar is easy to reach because it’s close to the centre. A local delicacy you can buy here is the honey from Marmaris.
The harbour itself is not to be missed either. It is now the largest and most luxurious marina in Turkey. You will find shops, restaurants, bars, entertainment and much more.
Dalyan is a little town near Marmaris. This town is located on a curvy river surrounded by nature. Besides the charming village you will find wild turtles on the beach and some of the best authentic restaurants of Turkey. One of the most recommended ancient sites to visit is the intricate carvings into a rock face of the nearby hills, the Carian Rock Tombs.
Would you rather have some excitement and adventure? Book a jeep safari and discover the surroundings. Discover the beautiful places in the national park. On the way, there is a stop to eat and drink something and to see beautiful waterfalls. You can also dive into the refreshingly cool water.
There are several boat trips you can take part in. Very nice is a trip to Rhodes, or a trip along the coast where it sometimes stops at the most heavenly places to have lunch or to explore the Phosphorus Caves.
