The whole ceremony is a ritual, forming a symbolic representation of the stages that Dervishes are going through in order to reach their ultimate goal in life, God. The performance starts with a prayer to Prophet Mohammed. The, Dervishes take their place and begin the infamous Circling of Veled. The circling part is probably the most important one. This is because it symbolises the resurrection from the grave.

What really makes this ceremony special is that, every single part of the process has its own unique hidden meaning. In what regards the Dervishes’ clothes, the cloak represents the grave, and their hat symbolises the gravestone.
